PV Choir: How Much do Students Enjoy It?
Choir in PV is an optional opportunity to enhance students’ ability to understand, develop, and apply their skills to a wide range of music. Although there are many activities and lessons completely revolving around students’ input and experience, is it really enjoyable for students as a whole? In a quick questionnaire I had with a student, who wished to remain anonymous, involved in PVJH’s choir they mentioned that, “It’s okay, and it can be fun sometimes.”
Students may not find it the most enjoyable class, but it still contains a lot of helpful information and activities included in the curriculum that help students hone their musical skills. Research also shows that choir can improve social skills, lead to a better self image, and promote success skills, even if students may not realize it (https://tinyurl.com/chorusamerica). In another interview I had with a student, Cate Bestold, she said that, “Choir is really fun! I actually enjoy choir.” For students, it serves as a break from the work-intensive classes everyone has, and poses an opportunity to unwind and relax for a 45 minute period while honing their singing talent. Overall, choir is quite beneficial to student’s mental and physical health, providing them with a calming way to find self-confidence and enhance their vocal skill.
