This week the Highschool dance team for Pleasant valley (PVP) has their tryouts this week. There are many things that go into tryouts, first of all there are many open gyms before tryout week where you learn different techniques and combos that are similar to your tryouts. Then we have to send in a highlight reel which is a combo that you make up, with a clip of music that is provided. Then we learn our cobos for tryouts this Monday and Tuesday. On Monday we learned our pom combo, which is a type of dance that studios don’t usually teach and it is similar to cheer. On Tuesday we learned our jazz combo and on Thursday we will have our groups of three and our fifteen minute time block to show the combos learned as well as our trick of choice, quad pirouette, and our spinning disk as well as other skills and tricks needed to get the full points. Then we have callbacks afterwards that everyone comes back and they will run the combos again but in different groups. The whole process is stressful, but being on PVP is an amazing experience with lots of opportunities.
