Phish Food: A Legend-Dairy Ice Cream Flavor

By: Abigail Kunkel

Creamy chocolate, fluffy marshmallow, delicious caramel, and the iconic fudge fish: Who could possibly resist a scoop of the best ice cream ever? This delectable concoction debuted in 1997 by Ben & Jerry’s, and, according to the Ben & Jerry's website, Phish Food is ranked #7 for Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavors. Also, the author on eatthis.com, claimed that they are "a big fan of the caramel and marshmallow combination” (Maldonado). Phish Food is certainly a go-to ice cream flavor.

I interviewed eighth grade ELA teacher, Mrs. Blake, about Phish Food. She hasn’t tried it before, but she said, “It sounds delicious!” Phish Food’s description even sounds amazing! Even more than this, Phish Food contributes to charity. This ice cream flavor is the perfect combination of chocolate, caramel, and marshmallow. Profits from Phish Food being sold are donated to clean up Lake Champlain. A sixth grade student, Logan Kunkel, said, “It’s okay. I like the flavor, but sometimes the marshmallow flavor can be too overpowering.” While this can be true for some people, the caramel often balances out the marshmallow flavor, making for one delicious scoop of ice cream!

I highly recommend this ice cream flavor. You can use it to cool down on a warm summer day or any other day! So, this summer, if you need a cold treat, head to a grocery store and grab a pint of Phish Food!
