Ponca City Wildcats Cross Country
Head Coach - Larry Degan
Wendy Landes, Brant Steffey, and Chris Maier
The Ponca City Cross Country athletic program is for athletes grades 6 through 12. The season is from August through November, with meets each week through the Regional meet in October. Performances in practices and in meets will determine Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, which may change from week to week based on eligibility and performance. Qualifiers from the Regional meet represent themselves, the team, and their school at the State Cross Country Meet at the end of the season.
All athletes are required to enroll in Cross Country during school enrollment, fill out and turn in the required OSSAA paperwork, and have a valid physical exam on file with the Athletic Directors office and a copy with the program's coach.
Participation in practices and meets, meeting eligibility requirements, and performance determine the athlete's status on the team. Lettering requirements are active participation in practices, meeting OSSAA eligibility requirements, and participation in 80% of all competition (meets), and final recommendation and approval of the head coach.
A team t-shirt and a water-bottle (required during all practices) will be provided at the beginning of the season when all required paperwork has been turned in. A team fee is required - fundraising opportunities may be offered as an alternative to help cover the cost of the fee.
