September 2023
Week 1 is important. It covers concepts that are the essence of object oriented programming.
Week 2-4 is covers the core concepts of Java. Make sure these are very clear or later weeks would become a nightmare.
Week 5 onwards the course picks up a little pace and covers several advanced concepts.
The course, in overall, is a heavy course, content worth 2 semesters compressed into 12 weeks and needs time to absorb it. The graded assignments and quizzes will mainly test you on the syntax and the only way to learn the syntax is by practice.
The lectures are good but lack a programming demonstration and sometimes one might feel them to be fast paced.
Do attend the live sessions or watch them later at 1.5x, especially the revision sessions before quiz. They are really helpful. For programming exams (OPE), practice is absolutely necessary. The first OPE covers easy stuff, do it well, and you will be safe.
A word of caution : Although, the course compares Java and Python with respect to the features, don’t dwell on it too much. It will only make things confusing.
Lastly, Java : Complete Reference by Herbert Schildt is the bible for Java. Any edition above 9th should be fine as a reference for this course.
