The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My personal definition: Although professionalism can be grit, work ethic, time management and literacy, I believe that professionalism is also the things you do outside of work. For example, your attitude towards your work and punctuality are large parts of being professional.
Question 1:What do you like most about your job?
Answer 1: [Medical Lab Science] is right at the apex of patient care. Most of the clinical decisions are coming from the laboratory
Question2: How did you choose your job?
Answer 2: I realized that there’s not a whole lot you can do with a B.S in biological sciences so I ended up talking to my academic advisor, and we kind of hash out a couple ideas, and I found the MLT program.
Question 3: If you could go back to the beginning of your career, would you change anything?
Answer 3: yes I would have gone straight to an MLS (medical lab scientist) program rather than spend money on a bachelors in biological sciences.
Question 4:How important is communication in your field?
Answer 4: They are paramount to the job. Without good communication skills one would not survive in this environment. Not only do we have to talk amongst each other. We have to effectively communicate with RNs, doctors, and sometimes patients.
Question 5: What are the keys to success?
Answer 5: Patience. It is a very busy environment and being able to maintain your stress level and maintain professionalism. Also being willing to accept professional criticism and knowing when to ask for help.
I strive to earn a bachelor degree in biology and master in a related topic. With my education I want to pursue pharmaceutical research.
