Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - When it first came out, the movie wasn't loved or respected as it should be. The term ¨final girl¨ was created thanks to an Oscar-worthy performance by Gunner Hansen. We almost feel bad for the slow and beaten leather face.
Scream (1996) - When the slasher genre started to die down due to physiological horror movies, iconic director Wes Craven created Scream. The movie is a multi-killer slasher. The movie got more and more horror fans to reinvest in the slasher genre.
Halloween (1978)- This movie is just the definition of horror. The feeling that you're being watched by a man who clearly overpowers you and will do anything to kill you is just enough to drive you insane.
Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)- This is the movie when Jason gets his hockey mask and becomes synonymous with horror. He also gets his machete and turns into the slasher we all know and love.
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) When I first saw this horror movie, I was scared. An original creation from the man himself, Wes Craven. This is only his third ever film. I would recommend this to anybody who wants to get into the horror genre.
Saw (2004) This physiological horror movie is a masterpiece. A man with cancer kidnaps wrongdoers and forces them to compete in games to save their lives.
Jeepers Creepers (2001)- I was debating putting this movie on my list due to personal reasons with the director Victor Salva’s actions in real life. This movie is so scary that I still cannot watch the full thing to this day
Hellraiser (1987)- This movie is a great watch from beginning to end. This is a horror movie with a simple plot and scary premises. It came out in the late 1980s so they got away with things that would cancel us in 2025.
The Thing (1982)- Even in 2025, the practical effects and stunts are so good that if I never told you the year it was made, you would believe it came out recently. This is John Carpenter's second most iconic film besides Halloween. This movie was so scary it was forced to be taken out of theaters. Appreciation for the film has grown over the years.
The Terrifier (2018) - In my opinion, this is not a good horror movie at all. It's a sloppy slasher. But the movie does make up for the plot with pretty gruesome and disgusting sfx. However, it lacks in plot and character development. I still recommend this movie.
