On December 7th, 2023, the first season of My Life with the Walter Boys was released. This TV series is filled with romance, teen drama, and includes a love triangle. If you're ever searching on Netflix for a show, My Life with the Walter Boys is definitely the show to binge-watch.
The show follows Jackie Howard, who is originally from New York, and her struggles with grief and belonging in a new town in Colorado after her parents died in a tragic car accident. Nobody is left in her family except her uncle, who is constantly traveling for work. Jackie has no choice but to live with her mother’s best friend, Katherine. Katherine’s house is on a farm in Colorado, with twelve people living in the house–now thirteen. Jackie meets the nine brothers in the house. Two brothers stand out to her: Alex, the kind and caring brother who has a passion for horseback riding, and Cole, the rebellious and “good-looking” brother. While Jackie navigates her way through her love triangle with Cole and Alex, she still needs to focus on school and maintain her straight A’s in order to follow her plan of going to Princeton. Can she navigate her way through high school while maintaining her friendships and love triangle without screwing up in school and messing up her future plans?
Personally, I would rate this show an 8/10. I think it is similar to The Summer I Turned Pretty, so if you liked that show, you may like this one! My Life with the Walter Boys is great; I felt a connection with most of the characters, and it had quite some unexpected twists to it. The love triangle between the characters had me really interested in what was going to happen next. I would say this show was really gripping with all the romance.
This show's message is about confronting grief and belonging. Jackie struggles throughout the show, dealing with the grief for her mother and father, as well as not knowing how to belong in a new town that is very different from New York. Jackie has to heal by confronting her sorrow over her parents' death. This show conveys the true meaning that family isn’t always by blood; it’s made up by the people who care and love you the most and would do anything to see you happy.
