2024 was undeniably a fantastic year for movies. However, as we near the end of the first half of 2025, it’s clear this year’s filmography is equally–if not more–exciting. Here are some movies that are definitely worth a trip to the movie theater.
Superman: Esteemed Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, the newest take on DC’s beloved hero Clark Kent.
The Phoenician Scheme: Wes Anderson’s typical distinct filming style, full of bright colors, stunning symmetry, and a star-studded cast.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach make up the classic team, their first appearance on the big screen since 2015, a decade ago.
F1: Produced by actual Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, with a packed soundtrack.
Him: From horror director Jordan Peele’s production company Monkey Productions comes a chilling film about an aspiring football player.
28 Years Later: The third installment in its series, a hair-raising zombie film starring Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
How to Train Your Dragon: The live-action adaptation of one of DreamWorks’ most celebrated films, starring Hollywood up-and-comers Mason Thames and Nico Parker.
Eddington: Another unique film from Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster, accompanied by Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, and Austin Butler.
Wicked: For Good: The second half of the critically acclaimed Oscar Nominee and Broadway hit.
Here are some movies that have already been released this year that you should keep an eye out for on streaming.
Lilo & Stitch: The live-action adaptation of one of Disney’s most heartwarming tales.
Sinners: An incredibly unique film from director Ryan Coogler. Fantastic performances from Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, and Miles Canton, and a genre-bending soundtrack to go along with it.
Thunderbolts*: One of Marvel's best recent movies. Florence Pugh and Lewis Pullman stand out, and the supporting cast is also amazing.
Final Destination Bloodlines: Another installment of an iconic series within the horror genre.
Companion: A thrilling horror movie with amazing performances by Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid.
Mickey 17: From Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho, starring Robert Pattinson and adapted from the novel Mickey7
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning: Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt once again in this famed franchise.
