Spangdahlem Elementary School – LLI Teachers

Dear Parents,

We put envelopes with a few books in them with the Teacher’s Supplies in the MPR. Included are:

· Books

· A Generic Question Sheet for questions to ask while reading books

· Letter Cards for Making Word Activities

· Sight Word Lists for Word Recognition Practice and putting into sentences.

We think that the regular classroom teacher assignments should be your priority, but if you find that your child is struggling with these activities, our activities may be more at their level. If you have time, we would suggest that you try some of the following activities:

1) Continue to re-read the black and white books that your child has at home, and the books in the bags.

2) Use the comprehension question sheet to talk about the books.

3) They could write a sentence or two about each book they have read.

4) They could find words in the books that are not familiar, make them with the letter cards, and put them into new sentences.

5) Practice the sight words lists until they are familiar. They could build them with the letter cards, and use them in sentences.

6) Practice any letters that are still unfamiliar. Write them, read them, talk about their sounds, think about words that have them, look for words in books that have them etc.
