Focus Question: How can I multiply multi-digit numbers?
This is our first year with this new curriculum, Reveal Math.
This fifth unit is all about understanding the different strategies of multiplying multi-digit whole numbers. Within this unit, we will look at understanding powers and exponents, patterns when multiplying by 10, estimating products, area model to solve for products, partial products to solve for products, the standard algorithm, and solving word problems.
Reveal Math 5.1 - Understanding Powers & Exponents
Reveal Math 5.2 - Patterns When Multiplying a Whole Number By Powers of 10
5.NBT.2 - Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplies or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.
