We currently have 20 students in the classroom.
We have nut allergies in the classroom.
Behavior- We will be following the school wide behavior policy of implementing the ABCs
A= Act Responsibly
B= Be Respectful
C= Care for yourself and other
For each of these letters, there will be simple rules for each part of the school.
For individual rewards students will have a punch card that when completed will be turned in for a reward.
Students will also have a chance to get their name on the bingo board for a chance of a reward.
We will be doing class rewards, keeping track of the compliments we receive around the building.
You will be notified of any behaviors that get in the way of your child's or their classmate's learning.
*The behavior plan will change to meet the needs of the class.
Agenda/Take Home Folders- Students are given time at the end of the day to write down all homework assignments and to make sure they have the appropriate sheets. Please purchase a planner from the PTO for $5. They should be bringing home both their take home folder and agenda daily.
Homework: Student will have daily homework. The homework should not take more than 60 minutes to complete each day. As a standard each child should be reading for at least fifteen minutes each evening, which should be included in the 60 minutes of homework time. Mathematics will be assigned most nights. Spelling words will be given usually on a Friday. Students will be responsible to learn their words on their own and be ready for the spelling test the following Friday. Language Arts, Social Studies, Health, and Science assignments will be assigned at different times each week. If the homework ever takes longer then 60 minutes, please let me know. Projects will be given with plenty of advance notice and students will be given a grading rubric the day they are assigned.
Snacks- Students will be allowed to eat a snack brought in from home. The snacks need to be something that can be eaten fairly quickly (10 minutes). Try to keep the snacks healthy. No Candy. Students are not to share snacks.
Water Bottles- Students should bring in a water bottle in which they can refill as needed. It should seal completely (no cups with a straw that do not close). I will make sure all bottles go home Friday so that they can be cleaned well at home and ready for the following week. Please make sure students only have water in their water bottles for the classroom. They may have other things to drink for lunch.
Transportation Home-Please let me or the office know if your child's transportation home changes. It makes for a stressful moment at the end of the day, when a child tells me they are not riding the bus home and they do not have an adult here to get them. Without notification from an adult, I will put your child on the bus.
Remind-I will be using the Remind App this year. It works well for getting information out to parents quickly and efficiently. It is a quick way to send and receive messages. It makes it easy for you to contact me, and gives me a way to send out last minute reminders. Please sign up.

Attendance: When a student is absent, he/she is responsible for making up the work. I intend to maintain a blended classroom where students who are absent will be able to complete some work online, especially with extended absences. This by no means replaces in-person instruction but adds flexibility considering the circumstances in today's world. It is VERY important that students attend school regularly because many classroom activities cannot be made up and valuable instruction time is missed.
**Early Notice of Absence form is located in the office. If you know your student will be absent for a trip, please let me know at least a week ahead of time.
Grades-This year your child will be receiving grades. Our grading scale is 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, anything below 60 is F. There are several ways in which you can be informed on how your child is performing. You will be able to set up an account in Aspen in which you will always be able to keep up with your child's performance in the classroom.
Students will have plenty of chances for success with making up low grades and turning in missing assignments, but there will be a cut off date for this each quarter. Aspen is the main source of grades since it will encompass all assignments. I will send home physical progress reports midway through the quarter and more often if I am worried about your child's performance. We will be using Google Classroom, but the grades tab in that program will not accurately reflect your child's performance.
This year your child will be coming home with a black folder ( every Thursday) with all the work they have turned in for class. This folder will have a signature sheet for you to sign stating that you have seen the papers. Empty folders with signed sheets receive a sticker. Many students enjoy the variety of stickers used throughout the year and it shows me that you have taken the time to review your child's work.
Assignments lower then a C (70%) can be corrected and turned back in. They have to be turned in by the cut-off date. The easiest way to do this is to collect those papers out of your child's folders and set them aside for your child to correct at their convenience (the sooner the better). Have students make corrections in pen and not erase original answers.
For student to make corrections on virtual assignments, they must first e-mail me, so that they can receive access to do it a second time.
Keep in mind, with virtual assignments, teachers have to log in and check to see if those assignments are turned in. If a student turns in the assignment after the teacher graded it for the class, it might result in being overlooked for awhile.
Google forms will mark an answer wrong if it is not typed in exactly as the answer key. Capital letters, spacing, spelling, etc result in wrong answers. I do not automatically take the grade that Google says a student received. I personally look over all assignments done in forms and adjust grades as needed.
If students ever need a second copy of an assignment, they must submit it (their name and the assignment they would like) to me in writing or via e-mail.
Contact- Please contact me with any questions or concerns. You can reach me at jennifer.wilson@dodea.edu, jennifer.a.wilson@student.dodea.edu, or through Remind. The Remind App is the quickest way to reach me. Together we will work together to make this unique year a successful one for your student.
This school year, as every school year, is very important for your child. With age comes responsibility. Each student will be called upon to be responsible for their assignments, school materials, supplies, lunch box or lunch pin numbers.
