Career & Technical Education (CTE)
Career & Technical Education (CTE) is an education pathway offered in DoDEA that provides students with the academic, technical, and real-world knowledge, skills and experience they need to prepare for a successful transition to college, career, and life. CTE students receive training in different types of careers in high growth industries and develop employability and professional skills that are essential building blocks to success in further education and work. CTE programs are personalized, hands-on, and gives students opportunities to figure out what they are passionate about and want to do after high school.
Career Clusters represent major groupings of similar occupations and industries within the U.S. job market. Each Career Cluster provides students with an overview of career options and an understanding of the broad industry. Within each of the Career Clusters are various Career Pathways, which are sequences of CTE courses designed to prepare students for careers and continued education.
Students are required to complete 2.0 credits in Career & Technical Education to receive a DoDEA standard diploma or honors diploma.
For students entering 9th Grade in school Year 2022-23 (Class of 2026) or school year 2023-24 (Class of 2027), the following CTE credits are required:
1.5 credits (CTE course offering)
0.5 credit (Computer technology CTE course)
For students entering 9th Grade in school year 2024-2025 (Class of 2028) and beyond, the following CTE credits are required:

For a complete list of DoDEA graduation requirements, please visit the DoDEA Student Services site.
After completing 3.0 credits within a CTE pathway, students will receive a CTE Pathway Endorsement notation on their official transcript and acknowledgment during the graduation commencement ceremony.
The CTE Pathway Endorsement is an official recognition of successful achievement and shows prospective employers, scholarship boards, colleges, universities, training programs, and the military that a student has:
Completed a comprehensive, in-depth, and applied course of study in a specialized area.
Developed transferable work habits including self-reflection, self-direction, and perseverance through purposeful and meaningful learning experiences.
Participated in learning opportunities that are diverse, rigorous, and connected to the world outside of the school building.
Many of the CTE programs offered at AFNorth Middle/High School provide opportunities for students to earn industry credentials and college credit. An industry credential is verification of a student's knowledge, qualifications, and/or competence in a specific skillset. Preparing for and earning an industry credential is a great way to expand knowledge and provide industry-recognized proof that the student is prepared for career-related responsibilities or post-secondary education or training. Students who desire these professional credentials must pass an industry-developed, industry evaluated exam at the end of the CTE course.
Industry credentials offered through the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) have been evaluated by the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) to translate each credential into college credits.
SchooLinks is a modern college and career readiness platform that will guide our secondary students through a series of college and career planning activities to help prepare them for what comes after graduation. Students can discover their interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, and create a personal plan that best reflects their post secondary school goals.
