Welcome to our third Countdown to Summer blog post! Starting tomorrow, we only have two more weeks of new learning- can you believe it? The month of June also starts tomorrow. Did you know that our current months are based off of the months on the ancient Roman calendar? June was named for the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno. July is named after Julius Caesar, who was born in this month. Before Julius Caesar's death it was named Quintilis, meaning "fifth month." According to the Roman calendar, it was the fifth month, because the calendar started in March! August is named after the Roman emperor Augustus, but it was originally called Sextilis, meaning "sixth month." I hope you found this interesting!
