Grading Policy

"Working hard is important. But there is something that matters even more: believing in yourself."

- Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling)

Grade Determination:

Each assignment is worth a certain amount of points, some having a higher point value than others. Points will be accumulated through quizzes, tests, writing assignments, classwork, homework, notebooks, projects and preparedness. Grading is done on a total points system.  At the end of the marking period those points earned will be divided by the total points possible to arrive at a percentage.  That percentage is the trimester grade.

All students are encouraged to monitor grades on Infinite Campus.  Once a grade is posted on IC, any students with missing work will be marked with an "M" so that students know this has been graded and not received.  Students are expected to email me once an assignment is completed so that the assignment can be graded and IC can be updated.

*An "M" on Infinite Campus means that you have not turned in an assignment.  This is a reminder for you to complete the work.  The "M" will be removed when you email me that you have completed the assignment.  You will not lose points if you are absent.

Assignments are posted daily in Google Classroom and other important information is available on my website:

Extra credit may be given at various times during the marking period.

The final grade will be calculated by averaging the three trimester grades.

Homework Policy:

Students usually finish classwork during the ELA block; however, classwork will become homework if you do not finish by the end of class.  When homework is assigned, students are expected to complete all homework on time.  If students hand in work one day late, points will be deducted.  After one day, a student may be assigned to ELA camp (or required to check in period 10) until the assignment is complete.  Work may receive partial credit.

Projects:

Written expectations for projects or research papers will be provided when a project is assigned.  Late work will be penalized.

Absence:

First check Google Classroom for the daily post and see what you can complete.  See me when you return for any missed handouts and to clarify directions.  You can also email with questions klaub@boyertownasd.org

Students will be allotted the same number of days as the absence to make up missed work.  For example, if a student is absent for two days, all missed work should be made up during the first two days back to school.

It is the student’s responsibility to turn in his/her completed work.  If he/she does not turn in the work, the grade will changed from “missing” to zero.

If a student is absent the day a test or quiz is given, he or she is expected to be prepared for the assessment upon return to class.

If a student is absent the day a project or multi-day assignment is due, he or she must turn in the work upon return to school.
