Since I was a child, I have been exposed to the field of dancing, and many of my teachers would often say, "When one learns to dance, they also learn many mistakes." I was a dancer of tinikling when I was in grade 2 and participated in a regional folk dance competition when I was in grade 8. That experience taught me to embrace the beautiful dances that we have and enlightened my perspective that even though it is just a dance, it has a significant impact in showcasing our cultural heritage.

SALA TI MAIS

Sala Ti Mais is a Rural occupational dance that is celebrating the bountiful harvest of corns in the lowland of Isabela, because corn is the major crop in Isabela.

TINIKLING

The Tinikling originated during Spanish colonization of the Philippines. Historical accounts describe that rice farmers on the island of Leyte set bamboo traps on their fields to protect them from the tikling birds - where the name Tinikling comes from. The farmers imitated the movement of the tikling birds as they slyly dodged the bamboo traps.

LAPAY BANTIGUE

Lapay Bantigue Dance FestivalIt is celebrated annually during the City Anniversary on 30th day of September. This event highlights the traditional folk dance created by "Lola Felisa" many years ago, when she imitated the graceful movement of the seagull (locally known as Lapay). The dance has evolved and is now recognized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines as one of the official folk dances of the country. This dance was also recognized during the Spanish Colonization.
