Recently, Stuart Hall hosted Family Weekend. This event permitted the parents of day and boarding students alike to experience a day in the life of a Stuart Hall student. During this event, both Red and White day classes were condensed into the morning of Friday, October 3rd, and allowed for parents to attend 30 minutes of all of their student’s classes. This was fun for both parents and students, and let parents connect more personally with their students' education.
Cecilia Gunzburger, parent of Ingrid Anderson, ‘26, praised that “Family Day was a great experience. It’s wonderful to see firsthand how fabulous STU teachers use engaging activities to present rigorous material.” Reid Harris, parent of Amory Harris, ‘26, similarly enjoyed the day, expressing that it was “great”, and “really nice to get a peek into my child’s daily grind and get to know their teachers a little better.” Both shared that they would be more than willing to attend again if given the opportunity. Both also shared that the day gave them a better understanding of their child’s academic life, emphasizing the practical side of such an event.
Delving into the actual class experience, Ms. Gunzburger shared that she was most excited for Philosophy, “to see how Stuart Hall engages students with big ideas”. At the end of the day, however, she reported that AP US History ended up being her favorite class to attend, thanks mostly to the interactive nature of that particular class. Dr. Harris, on the other hand, was eager to attend AP Calculus AB. Unsurprisingly, it ended up being his favorite, along with AP Physics.
After all the classes on Family Day, families were invited to attend Ring Ceremony, a celebration of the senior class, in which 12th graders are officially given class rings or other chosen jewelry. Undoubtedly, Family Day was a success, and one that many hope will continue in the future.
