A Sneak Peek Into STU’s Friday Badminton Activity With Mr. Arnold
STU’s very own Mr. Arnold hosts a weekly badminton activity that caters to all levels of skill and offers a fun experience. From a group of individuals looking to branch out and try something new, to a more competitive group that plays weekly, there is something for everyone.
After being asked about the fun and inclusivity for all levels of players, Mr. Arnold expressed, “We set up several nets across the court, allowing for different levels of play. A large, tournament-sized net is typically used by the more competitive players, while two to three smaller nets cater to casual play. Sometimes new players get to spend some time at the big net to experience a faster-paced game. I try to visit all of the nets during the night to spend time with everyone who came to play.”
The time allotted for playing can also serve as a learning experience. Many of the better players are great at giving tips to others, allowing for elevated play and a more fun experience overall.
When it was inquired if participants help to teach and encourage growth in each other, here is what Mr Arnold had to say: “All of the stronger and more experienced players provide tips to those learning how to play. Our students who have trained in Vietnam are especially patient and teach important skills to those new to the game.”
While you might think that badminton is for a niche group of people, anyone can join this event to play, socialize, and have fun while engaging in the sport. It lasts from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and is a great opportunity to try something new. In the wise words of Mr Arnold, “Friday night badminton is open to everyone, including day students. No experience is necessary, but anyone planning to participate should prepare to sweat and work hard. Badminton is a great opportunity to engage with peers and adults in a fun environment and release the stresses of the school week.”
