With November already settling in, students here at Stuart Hall have more or less gotten into the swing of things. Remembering one's class schedule now comes as second nature, and getting out of bed at 7 AM no longer seems an impossible task. The everyday school routine has become mundane, yet for around two dozen middle and high schoolers, one major part of their day is already coming to an end. Last Wednesday marked the last game of the 2024 volleyball season. It was not an easy season, and the losses outnumbered the wins.
However, this was not for a lack of effort. This year the team made the change from JV to Varsity, and it was met with harder practices and more challenging opponents as a result. One returning player, Marina Lucarelli, shared her opinion on the challenges faced this season, stating that it has not been an easy season but that “In terms or skills, I truly feel like our team has really improved and we are getting better each day.” This positive sentiment can be seen in the whole team during practices, with the upbeat environment being cited as one of the reasons returning players play the sport. It can be expected that one's teammates will cheer on and encourage one another every practice, regardless of whether the previous day included a harsh loss or an inspiring win.
Fellow returning player MK O’Connell similarly said that she plays “Because I like to be with my teammates, and it is a really fun sport.” Following a win during the recent senior night, the team went in optimistically to their last game this past Wednesday. Unfortunately, this game ended in a loss. With the clear positive impact this sport leaves on the Stuart Hall community, the quickly approaching end to this year's season is certainly bittersweet.
