This month’s artist is Neven Columbo (11), who says “I started drawing when I was pretty young just because I enjoyed the creativity and accessibility. It has always been a bit of a hobby and will hopefully continue to be. I enjoy being able to take thoughts from your own mind and put it into the real world and it serves as a nice passtime when I'm bored, (like in some classes).” The first piece below is a portrait of a man, Neven comments: “Realistic faces have always been hard for me, and probably will always be hard. I find that, unlike other things, it is way too easy to draw a face that falls into the uncanny valley. I have been starting to practice drawing faces more. I used a picture of an old man I found on google for reference.” The second drawing is a very proper bird in human clothing, Neven says, “I love crows and goofy little guys, so why not combine them? It's just a crow in some fancy clothes. He just felt like dressing a little classy that day.”
