JV Girls' Basketball Team
The Girls' JV Basketball team is well into an exciting season with a fresh start under the guidance of their new coach, Neveah Henson. Coach Henson is stepping into the coaching role for the first time, bringing a renewed sense of enthusiasm and dedication to the team. She graduated from Staunton High School last year, where she was a prominent member of the Girls' Varsity Basketball Team. Her passion for basketball and commitment to nurturing talent make her an ideal mentor for the players. Comprising a diverse group of fourteen players ranging in age from 12 to 18, the team is a mix of experienced athletes and newcomers eager to learn and contribute to the game. From athletes with years of experience to beginners who are only starting their journey with basketball, the JV girls' basketball team is filled with talent and potential.
Stuart Hall has a great legacy of extremely successful Girls Basketball seasons. In the pre-pandemic years, the Varsity Girls Basketball team has consecutively ranked 2nd in Virginia Division VC Rankings for both the 17/18 and 18/19 winter seasons. They peaked in the 16/17 season when they achieved 1st place in that same ranking. The new JV Team is proud to be able to build upon that history, and the girls are determined to keep working together and improving their strength to uphold the successful past of our School's Girls’ Basketball program.
This season is very significant, as the team is determined to seek out more opportunities to improve. Players are making great progress in terms of not only their skills on court, but they are also actively working on building a strong team spirit that is crucial for a successful season. Players are advocating for additional games, practices, and other resources to enhance their skills and team cohesion. Their approach demonstrates their dedication to elevating the performance of the team and achieving new milestones.
Players meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for their regular practices. Their practices have a unique structure. They spend the first hour mastering their skills in the gym. The players execute various drills to work on team unity and their personal goals, as well as go over defensive and offensive plays for future games. The last thirty minutes are dedicated to discussing their upcoming matches and focusing on analyzing their opponents, which helps them improve their understanding of the specifics of the games.
Working together under Coach Henson's guidance, the players are set to grow individually and as a unified team. With a supportive coach, a blend of experienced and new players, as well as a shared determination to improve their skills, the girls are athletes who are motivated to take on any challenges with great strength. The Stuart Hall Community takes pride in the school's athletic program, which the JV Girls’ team is part of, so we are all excited to see what this season has in store for them, as we believe that they have a lot to bring, given the right tools. And as always, we’ll be there, supporting them every step of the way.
GO DRAGONS!
