Remember her as the kid in the stands.
Or as the girl who gave it her very best chance.
Testifying against her mother who abused.
And listening to her father scream after there was nothing left to use. Or as the girl who stood with her best friend in hand. A bear with pink ears and eyes that one wished they had. Something that made her feel at home.
As the winner of a game she had no chance of winning. Watching her parents walk with shame.
As they passed with cuffs on both hands.
She closed her eyes and so did her best friend.
Crying softly as she asked a question.
“Mr. Bear, will you sing to me, for a while.”
“Sing about the stars, or the sky, but please make me forget this life.” To forget about it all and testify again.
Against the soul who created her forever dent.
“Mr. Bear, are you there, will you dare to say…”
“Never leave me, say it to my face.”
