Safe Environment Training 

is mandatory for any person who volunteers in our church and is in close contact with children.

The link to join the session via google meet will be sent to registered participants 48 hours prior to the session.

Please also note that those who are up for renewal of their training can also register for this session.

Instructions to Register for the class - Online 

VIRTUS - Protecting God’s Children for Adults 

Step 1 - Navigate to Virtus website @ www.virtus.org 

Step 2 - Click on - First Time Registrant 

Step 3 - Click on “Begin Registration Process” 

Step 4 - Select the organization from the dropdown menu - which is 

St.Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Chicago 

Step 5 - Create a user ID and Password 

Step 6 - Enter Personal Info 

Step 7 - Select Primary Location from the Drop down Menu- which is Somerset, N.J 

Step 8 - Write title within your diocese-Volunteer 

Step 9 - Additional Role -Volunteer 

Step 10 - Check Yes/No 

Step 11- Click on “ I Have -----------------its requirements” 

Step 12- Have you already attended the session - Select Yes 

Next page you will see the date and time of our parish and date and time of all sessions Select the session that you have attended/ will be attending -

The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People is a comprehensive set of procedures originally established by the USCCB in June 2002 for addressing allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. The Charter also includes guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse. It was revised in 2005, 2011, and 2018. The Charter directs action in all the following matters:

• Creating a safe environment for children and young people;

• Healing and reconciliation of victims and survivors;

• Making prompt and effective response to allegations;

• Cooperating with civil authorities;

• Disciplining offenders;

• Providing for means of accountability for the future to ensure the problem continues to be effectively dealt with through the Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection and the National Review Board.
