In general, we create cards at school and for homework during the first week (4-5 cards a day). Students should then practice those 4-5 words that night. During the second week, we add connections and sentences to the cards and complete the workbook pages for practice. Soon after that, we take the unit test and move on to the next unit.
Students keep the set of unit cards until the day of the test. On test day, they will turn them in in a Ziploc. Vocab cards are a 20pt quiz grade, and the rubric is on the template slides. Not every set of unit cards will be graded; however, students never know which sets will be graded, so it’s best to show the effort each time.
After reviewing their cards, I return them to the students. They should hang on to all sets of cards until after the end-of-quarter exam, so they can use them to study for exams.
Check Google Classroom for specific unit help. There will be links to online games and digital flashcards to use in addition to the workbook and our flashcards made in class.
vocabtest.com can be used to practice specific skills, e.g. Synonyms, Antonyms, etc. Each unit will be linked in Google Classroom, or visit the website, scroll down on the right to the section titled, "VocabTest.com material based on words found in Vocabulary Workshop®," choose Level C for 7th grade, and find our current unit.
Quizlet has the feature that you can "star" certain words in each unit. So you can quiz yourself and play games with 5 words at a time.
Blooket is better for once you have learned all the words. Use this site more for last review the night before our test.
