Course Description
Students will learn to demonstrate understanding of a variety of spoken Spanish. Also, they will interact using spoken Spanish to communicate personal information, ideas and opinions in different situations. They will write a variety of text types in Spanish on areas of most immediate relevance. We ill build on cultural knowledge of the Hispanic world acquired in Year 10. Students can gain up to 24 credits in this course.
Topics covered: Viajes (travel), emociones (expressing emotions), comparativos (preferences and comparisons), el pretérito (past tense to describe finished events), la vida cotidiana (everyday life), el subjuntivo (the subjunctive mood), history and culture of selected South American countries, spoken presentations and pronunciation, dialogues in restaurants, banks and other businesses. Weekly vocabulary buildings exercises.
Pre-requisite
Year 10 Spanish or can display an equivalent level of Spanish language knowledge.
Assessment
Three NCEA internal assessments which test speaking, writing, reading and listening skills. The option to do either one of two external assessments which cover the same set of skills.
Course contributions
Students are asked to contribute $30 towards the cost of online courses and Education Perfect.
