Tuesday, April 1st

Good morning third graders!

I LOVED seeing all of your faces yesterday on our Zoom! We will have another opportunity next week! You will have a uniform for our next one too. I want all of you dressed as your Star Character! I will send more information to your parents through email but I thought this would be a fun way for all you to see the "characters" in your classroom:)

Today you are going to be learning about wind energy and how it is a great alternative for clean energy. Weren't those solar cars at Iowa State so cool?! In writing, you will be finishing up your articles. This doesn't need to be a full research project but an article over a subject you already know about and something you want to find out a little more about. In Religion, you will be learning a little more about the seven Sacraments and the symbols and words that go along with it. You are also going to be making a poster to go along with it. Also, in math you are going to be learning about angles. If you have an older sibling that was in my class, you'll see if they remember how I would teach about obtuse and acute angles??? It's just sooooooo obtuse!

Have a great day friends! I'll be finishing up the Menagerie series today for read-aloud and then onto a fan-favorite: Wayside School! Be kind to your parents and siblings today even though it is ApRiL FoOlS DaY!

Love,

Mrs. Halligan

Monday, March 30th

Good morning friends and welcome to your second week of distance learning!

I hope you had a great weekend with your families and were able to get out and PLAY! Your lessons look a little different this week because I thought it might be a little easier to get through your work this way. All of your work for the week is within each of those slides.

Please have your parents take a picture of your "how-to" writing from last week and send it to me. I'm eager to learn from all of you! Also, I have added social studies and Mrs. McGee has added a science tab for you this week.

I can't wait to see and talk to all of you in our Zoom meeting!!

Love,

Mrs. Halligan

Do not abandon me in my need, May we experience the peace and joy of your holy death

Amen

St. Gertrude prayer

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.

Notes from prior weeks:

Friyay!! March 27th

Good morning and happy Friyay my friends!!

Look at us! We made it through our first week in our virtual classroom. I know it has been a little different for me as a teacher, you as a student, and your parents as teachers too! I miss all of you so much and hope that we will be together again soon! I love seeing all of the pictures on our page and your questions/comments on our "Ask Mrs. Halligan" page.

Your Friday activities are a little more fun and practice since you worked hard this week! Remember, you can still play Sparkle with the people in your family. You can teach them how!

Next week, I will add social studies to our site. We are also going to be moving away from fractions and into our geometry unit! I can hear your cheers right now:). I know we are skipping around....but guess what? We can do that!!

I will be recording my last read aloud for the week! That will be up for you for you to listen after lunch. It just might be another "blankie" read aloud since it's kind of cloudy out today.

Have a great day friends!!!

Love and miss you!

Mrs. Halligan

Thursday, March 26th

Good morning third graders!

It's Thursday!! Today you are going to be learning about Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who is a citizen that changed the way people viewed suffrage... the right to vote. She was courageous and persevered even though there were people who told her it was impossible! Who are some other people you know who are trailblazers and changed the way people think?

I would love to hear from you and what you are writing about in your "how-to" writing! You can have your parents help you by sending me an email with your topic or even a picture of your writing. I would love to see where you are in your writing!!

Keep working on your Star Character books and reports. I'm looking forward to seeing your videos in a couple of weeks!!

I will be recording my next read-aloud this morning....everyone cuddle up with your favorite blankie (because I will too) and we'll find out what happens in the Menagerie next!

It's a new day my little friends! Say a prayer today of all of the things you are grateful for:)

Love, Mrs. Halligan

Wednesday, March 25th

Good morning third graders!

I hope yesterday's learning went well and that you learned a lot about citizenship, how to write a "how-to", and about the virtues! I also hope that you learned about comparing fractions with the same numerator and the strategies that go along with it. Remember, it's okay to "ask Mrs. Halligan a question" if you need to! My other hope is that you were able to get outside and play on that beautiful afternoon!

Today you will be learning about some amazing citizens and how they changed our world for the better because of their citizenship. I want you to think about ways in which they inspire you and how you can become an even better citizen by learning about them! It's all about the choices we make and if they make our world a better place.

I will be recording another read-aloud video from the Menagerie for you to listen after lunch. I can't leave you hanging as to what happened to Captain Fuzzbutt??

Have a wonderful Wednesday! Remember to start your day with our prayers and know that I will be thinking of all of you and am here if you need me! Your parents can email me or you can ask a question. Take care of yourselves and make sure to get out and get some sunshine (when it comes out)!

Love,

Mrs. Halligan

The rubrics for the Star Character report will be in the Writing section!

Hello my third grade friends! Our classroom is going to look a little different for a while but I want you to know we are in this together and we've got this!!

I will be posting your lessons weekly with a little message for you each day. I have a link if you have a question for me. I am trusting that you will do the work I am assigning for you. It's the same expectation I would have for you when we are together in the classroom. I have also given you some places where you can choose an activity or learning resource.

Please tell your parents to share pictures with me of YOU!! I will put them on this website so we can can "see" each other every day! I want to see all the great things you are doing at home.

I want you to know that I miss you very much and am praying for you and your families!

Love,

Mrs. Halligan
