Idle Worship

Calvin Rauer (they/he) 12th Grade

This piece is about the way people idolize corrupt politicians and systems, to the point of glamorizing, romanticizing and borderline worshipping them. Seeing these pigs as golden calves. It’s also a subtle nod to the corruption of religion for political gain, specifically Christianity. The title is borrowed from a Paramore song about a parasocial relationship between two people, and how it ultimately leads to disappointment and pain.
