Petar M. Djurić  earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Belgrade and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island.  Following his B.S. degree, he served as a Research Associate at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Vinča, Belgrade. Upon completing his Ph.D., he joined Stony Brook University, where he currently holds the position of SUNY Distinguished Professor and serves as the Savitri Devi Bangaru Professor in Artificial Intelligence. Prof. Djurić also held the role of Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2016 to 2023.

Prof.  Djurić's research has primarily focused on investigating the fundamentals of machine learning and signal and information processing with a diverse range of interests within them including causal inference theory, information fusion, Bayesian optimization, Monte Carlo methods, distributed signal processing, signal modeling, as well as detection and estimation. He applies the newly developed knowledge across various disciplines.

Prof. Djurić has served on numerous technical committees for the IEEE and has been invited to lecture at universities in the United States and overseas. His IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) activities include Member-at Large of the SPS Board of Governors (2011-2013), Vice President-Finance (2006-09), Area Editor of Special Issues - IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (2002-05), Associate Editor - IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing (1994-96 and 2003-05), Chair - SPS Signal Processing Theory and Methods Technical Committee (2005-06), and Treasurer - SPS Conference Board (2001-03). He has been on the Editorial Board of several journals and has served on numerous committees of professional conferences and workshops. He was the first Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks (2015-2018). He was also a General co-Chair of the European Signal Processing Conference in 2022. Prof. Djurić was a recipient of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine Best Paper Award in 2007 and the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) Technical Achievement Award in 2012.

Prof. Djurić is a Fellow of IEEE, a Fellow of EURASIP (European Association for Signal Processing), and a Fellow of AAIA (Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association). Additionally, he has been elected a Foreign Member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia. He has been inducted into the National Academy of Inventors and has been listed among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in all disciplines by Stanford University.
