Marcy S Ekanayake-Weber

BIO

Marcy has been a PhD student in Stony Brook University's Interdepartmental Doctoral Program in Anthropological Sciences (IDPAS) since 2015. Her research focuses on primate social behavior and physiology.

Her current dissertation project investigates the relationships between reproductive seasonality, energy balance, the immune system, and dominance in female grey langurs, and will answer the following questions:

  • when do females reproduce, and why?
  • what are the immune consequences of energetic state and reproductive investment?
  • and, how is the energetic tradeoff between reproduction and immunity related to dominance?

Her past work used agent-based models to study hamadryas baboon dispersal, and a continuing project compares variance in male lifetime reproductive success in the different mating systems of yellow baboons, hamadryas baboons, and geladas.
