Te Pātaka Ako | The Community Hub, was launched in Term 2, 2021. It is an inclusive learning community based on the philosophy of ako or reciprocity in learning - where everyone is the learner and everyone is the teacher.
Te Pātaka Ako is a multi-faceted space where we offer curriculum and parenting workshops. Research shows us that strong relationships with children and their families are a prerequisite for learning success. We can now correlate that at Stonefields School when parents engage, their children progress and achieve well. Through the Te Pātaka Ako workshops, we envisage further developing our valuable partnership which will lead to better outcomes for our children.
Te Pātaka Ako is a space for communities to gather to share their talents and interests in a variety of ways. It is also a space for the school to build powerful partnerships with the various sectors of our school community.
The ultimate purpose of Te Pātaka Ako is to continue to build and strengthen our strong community partnership.
Parent engagement is vital to children' learning and progress.
According to experts, the definition of parent engagement is parents and teachers sharing a responsibility to help their children learn and meet educational goals. Parents commit to prioritising their child’s educational goals, and teachers commit to listening and providing a space for collaboration with parents.
As part of the school's strategic goal to 'increase participation and belonging through nurturing a culture of inclusion for whānau and other communities' we will be holding 'coffee and conversation' events to connect with the various communities at Stonefields School.
More information will be sent out through the whole school comms.
We are living in an ever changing society with many demands on our children. We have heard your voice and will be running a variety of parent workshops to support you with issues that you might be facing e.g. how to help your child develop resilience, how to help an anxious child, how to teach children to be safe on line, issue with sleep or eating.
A community adult kapa haka group meets fortnightly on Tuesdays from 5.30-7pm in Te Pou Manawa. Everyone is welcome to join this enthusiastic group of parents and teachers as we learn a few waiata and the haka. Please feel free to come and have a look before deciding if you would like to join.
If you have a special interest and would like to set up a community group please email shoba.segar@stonefields.school.nz Any ideas for clubs or groups to connect the community are welcome e.g., te reo group, book club, art or craft club, knitting group.
