About us
We are delighted to be moving forward with this project in partnership with Ducks2Water, and thank you for your interest. Whether you are here to find out more, donate, or would like to get involved, we hope you find the information you are looking for!
Where are we?
Stokenchurch Primary and Nursery School’s swimming pool has been used by thousands of students for more than 30 years. Each student has benefited from the opportunity to learn swimming and water safety skills on site. However, the absence of a cover has restricted use of this fantastic asset to the summer months.
Suggestions for potential all weather solutions for the pool have been made for many years, but now we have an ambitious plan to do just that!
Where do we want to be?
The pool is currently used during the summer months, as the lack of roof and changing facilities prevents the pool from being an all-season option.
We plan to build an enclosure around and over the pool to enable children to swim for an extended period, initially from April - October, with an ambitious but achievable longer-term plan to source ventilation and heating to enable the pool to be used all year round.
Why do we want to do it?
There is a national shortage of access to a pool and swimming lessons, but establishing water safety skills at a young age remains incredibly important. The school is certain this development will not only significantly improve the offering to existing and future families, but will also considerably improve our green status and have a positive impact on the local community.
However, an enclosure would not only be of benefit to Stokenchurch pupils.
We know that being active can help us live longer, better lives. Swimming is an excellent form of low impact physical activity which is accessible to a wide range of people.
We plan for the pool to become a real community asset, by sharing the facilities with other local schools and the wider community outside of school hours. We plan to open for sessions in the evenings, and at weekends, to enable people from Stokenchurch and surrounding areas to access swimming opportunities without the need to travel to the nearest pools in Chinnor, Thame, Wycombe and Aylesbury.
How much will it cost, and when will you start?
This ambitious project is expected to cost in the region of £200,000 and will be completed as soon as the funds have been raised.
We are planning to cover the pool in 2025/26. We have started the process with the local council, as we are keen to get the pool enclosure covered as soon as possible to enable the children to swim for longer and the local community to benefit. There has been much talk for many years, and now we are delighted to be able to put these plans into action. We expect to be breaking ground at the end of summer term 2026.
How can I get involved?
This project is a huge undertaking, and we are looking for volunteers to help with several different aspects. If you would like to be involved with fundraising, would like to donate, or have ideas, please get in touch: pool@stokenchurchprimary.bucks.sch.uk
