Every day students will fill out their planner. They will write down their HW and any other important reminders. I ask that you check this with them each night. I will also write messages to parents in the planner. Students who use their planners will be set up for success.
Monday-Thursday students will be sent home with a math HW page that reviews the skills we learned that day. This should come back to school finished the next day. If they have questions on certain problems they will have class time to ask me for help. They will be given class time to work on this HW and most should finish it at school. I ask that you go over it with them at home.
On Monday students will be sent home with a spelling list for the week. Please review the words at home to prepare for their spelling test on Friday. There are lots of fun ways to practice spelling. Click below for some examples.
Students are expected to read 20 min each night. On most Tuesdays students will have a foldable book with questions on the back that counts towards their 20 min. This should be signed by an adult and returned the next day. On most Thursdays students will be asked to read their weekly text outload to someone for their 20 min. The front cover should be signed by an adult. Every other day should be free reading of some kind. See below for some ideas.
One of the best things you can do for your student is to read with them! Reading at home is crucial to student success with reading in the classroom. You can encourage them to read by themselves, have them read to a sibling before bed, or even have them practice reading the menus at restaurants. Make reading fun!
