***Fall Weather***

Due to the rising temperatures this week, if your child is uncomfortable, he or she may wear their summer uniform through the end of this week.

The St. Max Bucket Drumming Club is open to students in grades 3-8. It is a percussion ensemble where students read, write, practice, rehearse and perform their own musical compositions. They read and write standard drum music notation that has been adapted to be played on a standard five gallon plastic bucket. Regular drumsticks and sticking technique are used. Through the placement of the stick and by tipping the bucket slightly with the foot one is able to produce three distinct tones; standard "snare", rim and bass tones.

The Bucket Drumming Club will be broken down into 3 Sessions this year. We Meet on Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:00

  • Session 1 will run from October 11th through November 15th. With a performance on November 14th during Puttin on the Hits.
  • Session 2 will run from February 7th through March 14th. Performance TBD
  • Session 3 will run from April 18th through May 16th. Performance TBD

Cost per student per session is $10.00. Please fill out the registration form and return to school by October 10th.

From the Principal's Desk

October is a busy month. Classes are taking trips to the Renaissance Faire, Lancaster County (Amish Country), Ramsey Farms and Highland Orchards. We will also have visits from Archmere Academy and Bishop Shanahan High School. The Parish Family Fall Festival will take place on October 14 and the Home & School will sponsor the Pumpkin Parade and Trunk or Treat on October 26.

On the academic front, our teachers will attend a workshop entitled Working with Students with Learning Differences on October 8. Mrs. Jaskot will present a workshop for Pre K parents on Developing Fine Motor Skills on October 18.

Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for October 23 and 24. This week, the students from West Chester University began working with our students on writing skills. The University students will be working with individuals and small groups throughout the grades. The goal is to publish a student written magazine.

Our school mass is Thursday, October 4 at 9:00am. All are welcome. Our 5th grade students are preparing the Parade of Saints presentation which will follow mass on November 1.

On September 20, the 8th grade Student Council candidates addressed the students in grades four to eight. Each candidate spoke about his/her qualifications for a Student Council Board position. The students voted immediately afterwards. The Student Council Board members are: Clare Kornacki, Annabelle Wiedel, Robert Prince and Ella Iacone.

Student Representatives for grades four to eight were also elected. They are:

8th Grade - Olivia Broadhurst & Raphael Coronel

7th Grade - Luke Steinrock

6th Grade - Cullen Peterson

5th Grade - Kara Mudrick

4th Grade - Noah Peterson

Installation of the Student Council members will take place on Thursday, October 11 at 1:00pm

Drama Club

Do you have a child in 3rd through 8th grade who has a flare for Drama. Sign them up for Drama Club. We will have 2 sessions this year. First session starts on Thursday, November 29th and runs every Thursday School is in session through January 31st with a performance during Catholic Schools. Date and time TBD.

Dates for second session will be sent out in January.

There is a $10.00 registration fee per student per session.

****Reminder**** Your fundraising Kids Coupon books were due last Friday. Please either return the book or the money. We thank you for your support with this easy and fun fundraiser. ******

Tell your friends about St. Max Pre-K program and ask them to come and see us at the:

  • PreK Fair: Oct 4 , 6 – 7 pm at the Spellman Administration Building. Visit the St. Max Table and learn about our PreK 3 and PreK 4 programs.

Everyone show your St. Max pride and bring your friends and visit our table at the:

  • Westtown Day: Sunday Oct 7. 11 am to 3 pm. Oakbourne Park.
  • Look for the St. Max tables with information, fun activities and giveaways. If you book a tour of our school, you will receive a print of the Smith Mansion at Oakboune Park, signed by the artist, at the time of the tour.

Enjoy all the members of our parish and bring your neighbors to come and enjoy the day at the:

  • Family Fall Festival: Sunday Oct. 14, 1 -3:30, on the St. Max Campus.
  • While enjoying the food, music and games, stop by the St. Max School table and learn more about our School – PreK to 8th grade. We will have information and you can take a tour or book a tour for school hours.


Lunch time parents needed: Please help. This is an important position to make sure all of our students are safe on the school yard.

Grades 1-4 from 11:25-12:20 Monday and Wednesday. We need you ever other week!

Grades 5-8 from 11:50-12:45 on Tuesday and Friday.

Fall Festival

On October 14, 2018 the Parish is having a Family Fall Festival from 1:00-3:30. We need many volunteers to help with set-up, take-down, face painting, and many other roles. Service hours for High Schools, CYO and any other organization that needs service hours are available. Please sign up here on the sign up genius.


Our Home and School is sponsoring our annual Pumpkin Parade and Trunk or Treat event. Please come and enjoy this wonderful evening with family and friends. Stay and cheer on our Fall sports teams with a Pep Rally to end the night!


STREAM Items needed

St. Max is looking for the following tools to help in our STREAM room. If you have any of the items and can donate, please have your child bring them in and label them STREAM room. Thank you.

wire cutters, pliers, hammer, glue guns and sticks

If anyone knows of anyone that has a 3D printer that they can donate to us please let them know we are in need of one.

If you are cleaning out your toy room and find extra Lego's or K'nex, our room can use them for the machines and buildings the children are learning about in the engineering class. We thank you for your support.

Medical, Immunization and Dental information for the 2018-19 school year….

Pre-K – must submit a completed WCASD Entry Questionnaire (2 sided), an updated Physical Assessment Report and be up to date with all immunizations

K – must submit a recent Physical Assessment Report, be up to date with all immunizations and submit a recent Dental Examination Report

3rd – must submit a recent Dental Examination Report

6th – must submit a recent Physical Assessment Report

7th – must submit a recent Dental Examination Report and be up to date with all immunizations

*Private examination reports will be accepted from one year prior to the start of the school year.*

The deadline to submit all Physical and Dental exam reports is November 9, 2018

Any student entering St. Max for the first time in any grade other than Pre K must submit a completed WCASD entry questionnaire, an updated Physical Assessment Report, must be up to date with all immunizations (MUST provide proof before entering on the 1st day of school) and must submit a recent Dental Examination Report

For Students with Medications:

All medication orders must be updated by a physician at the beginning of every school year.
