From the Principal's Desk

Happy New Year!

Welcome to a brand new year! As the new year begins our teachers and students are taking stock and recommitting to their goals. It is a valuable practice. I would ask you to take time with your children to review and, in some cases, reset the routines and practices that make for successful living and learning.

There a many different ways that people evaluate and set their goals for the future. Each year our family has a rhyme for the new year. It’s an easy way to focus on the small things. This year it’s “Re-define in 2 0 1 9 ”.

What is your word? There’s an online movement called #MyOneWord. In the 7th grade, Mrs. Newhard’s students selected one word to define and direct their year. They took up the challenge to select one word as a beacon for the entire year. They have their word taped to their desks. It is interesting to distil all our resolutions down to one word. For 2019, my word is #purposeful.

I also like the last verse of William Ernest Henley’s poem, Invictus, because it reminds me that I am in charge of my own actions and decisions. It seems to align with both our family rhyme and my one word.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley

St. Maximilian Kolbe School Annual Fund

The St. Max Annual Fund Campaign has begun. This campaign helps narrow the gap between the tuition and the full cost of education. Each year parish members, parents, grandparents, alumni, teachers and friends contribute generously to this campaign. All donations go directly to our school. A special thanks to our parents and teachers who are reaching out personally to parish members and previous donors to express our gratitude. These personal contacts allow the donor to hear how their gift directly benefits our students. When you receive your letter and/or your call, please give whatever you can.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Malseed
