About Mrs. Johns
I was born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania. I earned a BS in Water Analysis Technology (a specific branch of Environmental Science) from California State College in Pennsylvania. I enjoyed a career full of various jobs in the field of Environmental Science...including working at a sewage treatment plant, water treatment plant, hazardous waste landfill, hazardous waste fuels to energy plant, environmental testing lab, selling hazardous waste disposal services, and selling industrial cleaning services!
My husband Tom and I spent about a year in Ohio before moving to Northern Michigan. For 9 years, we lived close to the 45th parallel on Lake Huron, where winters were long and cold. We enjoyed working together in an exciting new industry where hazardous waste solvents were used as fuel for the local cement plant. There I learned to deer hunt and thoroughly enjoyed hunting for black bears in Canada! We moved to south-west Michigan where it was a bit warmer and lived there for 6 years before moving to Kingwood.
We have one daughter that had been at SMCS from Pre-K 4 through 8th grade and graduated from Kingwood High School. She attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss!) for 2 years and is now at A&M studying Public Health-Pre-Nursing. I started substitute teaching about 15 years ago at SMCS and I spent 4 years as the SMCS Library Manager. This is my 8th year teaching Middle School Science at St. Martha.
I am certified to teach Generalist 4-8, Science 7-12 and Chemistry 8-12. I have also earned my Level III Catechist certificate and have earned my Google Level 1 certification.
