** 8/17/2017:

Hello all! It has been a busy and wonderful first week of school! I cannot believe it's already almost over! Again, I would like to thank everyone for being so welcoming of me. I sincerely appreciate it. As a sort of class update for parents; we have been working in groups, reviewing my class syllabus, class expectations, class rules, and communicating student interests as it pertains to all grade levels of Social Studies through working in stations/small groups/collaboratively. Essentially, the students within 6-8 have been getting acquainted with my instructional style as I have been becoming acquainted with their overall dynamic and learning styles. I have done this to benefit the students as I am utilizing all that we have been working on in class to drive my lesson planning and instruction to best meet their needs. As aforementioned, the week is not quite done yet, but I am confident that we will end on a strong and positive note (just as we began it). Please stay posted to "MrPerez.com," as I will soon be posting the finalized draft of my class syllabus, expectations, etc. to this class site. Thank you for your attention and time! You are all in my prayers! Please keep me in yours!

In Christ,

Vincent Perez

Parents and students,

Please find, here, my finalized syllabus, classroom procedures, and student expectations. The students did a "stations" activity where they had the opportunity to become familiar with all of the documents in question. The only change that has been made is to my finalized syllabus as I have added information regarding extra credit opportunities and test corrections. I have done my best to ensure that the information in these documents covers everything sufficiently. Please contact me if you feel that I have not addressed something. Thank you!

Parents and students,

It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of difficulty accessing the class site and documents that I have uploaded here. I assure you that I am working as fast as I can to resolve the issue. I deeply apologize for the trouble and am becoming better acquainted with the Google Sites program in order to put all of the technical difficulties to rest. I have removed the published documents (syllabus, student expectations, etc.) as I discovered that people could not even so much as view them. I will figure out how to adjust the settings so that all may view them, and republish them here. Thank you for your patience.

In Christ,

Vincent Perez

Parents and Students,

I believe that I have changed the settings on the aforementioned documents. Please email me at perezv@stmarthacs.org if it is still not functioning.

Thank you,

Students and parents of 6th Graders:

We began discussing the "parts of a map" portion of our Geography curriculum. Students were introduced to the acronym DOGTAILS and given a homework assignment that is due Friday, 8/25/2017. Details of their assignment can be found within the attached class presentation on the subject below. Please refer to it. If you have any questions, please contact me at perezv@stmarhtacs.org. I have also ensured that the settings of the presentation are set so that anyone may view it, and I apologize to those who have had difficulty accessing the documents I have been posting.

**8/24/17:

Students and Parents:

Students of all grade levels have been informed that they will have their first quiz next Thursday, August 31,2017. Students have been taking notes during class and understand that their success on quizzes, tests, and other assessments relies much on the notes they take. In addition, I have been posting my class presentations on Google Classroom for each corresponding class. I have also been more than happy to provide the very same resources to those students who have yet to join our Google Classroom online. If your student falls into that category, then please email me at perezv@stmarthacs.org so that I may provide them with the very same resources. Students understand that they are responsible for their own academic success, which includes taking notes and studying as well as keeping track of when assessments will be given. However, as this is the first assessment of the school year for my class, I thought it appropriate to issue this reminder. Please refer to my previously posted class syllabus before issuing any questions in regards to assessments for my class. The upcoming quizzes will cover the following subjects addressed in class, already:

  • 6th: DOGTAILS/parts of a map, reading a map, types of maps
  • 7th-8th: Primary and Secondary sources, Bias v. Opinion. Identifying bias and opinion in documents.

Thank you for your attention to this post!

Students and parents:

It has been a while since I have posted on the website. I would like all of you to know that you have been in my prayers. I am glad that class is back in session and that I have seen my students come back safely and soundly. Grades 6-8 took their first Social Studies quiz today and they survived! I am very proud of them and I am sure you are as well.

Aside from this, I have been thinking that perhaps having a continuous stream of updates on one page of the class website is inefficient. I would hate to have announcements and greetings go unread simply because you have to scroll down the page for forever and a day. As a sort of preemptive measure, I believe I will begin placing specified information in appropriate "pages" within this very same site, itself.

In closing, this post was mostly a greeting for everyone. Please keep me and the students in your prayers as you will all be in mine.

In Christ,

Mr. Perez

Students and parents,

I have informed students 6-8 that they will have a quiz in my class on Thursday, August 31. All students have been taking notes on the content. Students understand that their notes are essential to their success on quizzes, test, and other assessments. In addition, I have been posting presentations from class for students of all grade levels on the corresponding Google Classroom site. I have also been more than happy to provide the very same resources to those who have not had a chance to join my Google Classroom online just yet. If your student falls into that category, please email me at perezv@stmarthacs.org to request said resources. Students understand that they are responsible for their assignments, studying, assessments, etc., but I thought it helpful to extend this reminder as it will be the first of three quizzes for my class this grading period. Please refer to the previously posted syllabus prior to submitting any questions you may have concerning the upcoming quiz.

Students and Parents,

I now have a seperate page for assessment announcements. Please see it as it has been updated very recently. This was done to get rid of the need to go scrolling through a long feed of news and updates. I hope that you will find this to be much more helpful to you. Thank you for your cooperation!

** 1/5/2018-

Students and Parents,

Here we are in the second leg of the school year. The first brought a multitude of great blessings, personally: being welcomed to a new school, getting to know the community here, cheering on students at sports events, getting engaged to a wonderful woman, and so much more! I would like to thank everyone for your patience with me and for being so welcoming of me. The amount of support I have received (and continue to receive) truly means a great deal to me.

For this new year, the rigor and expectation for students increases in my class. As they draw closer to the next grade level, students will steadily need to depend on their own study and organizational skills. I think that all of their teachers here at St. Martha are preparing them well for this, so I have much confidence in the capabilities of our students and in the firm support we receive from the community here. It is really a great gift to witness day by day the growth of the students. They come in wide-eyed and eager to learn grow from there. It is really something.

Thank you to all parents, students, faculty, staff, and everyone for making 2017 so wonderful. I will continue to keep us all in my prayers. May God bless us all and this new 2018 year.

In Christ,

Vincent Perez
