Intent of the Programme:
The attainment of excellence in sports is the result of innate ability or skill and the dedicated pursuit of a programme of physical and mental training accompanied by appropriate nutrition. Training programme design should not be left to chance. Rather it should be designed thoughtfully and analytically after careful consideration of the physiological, bio-mechanical and psychological demands of the activity. IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science is an integrated course, which aims to introduce the student to a wide range of subject areas within simple contexts. The student develops a secure understanding of a limited body of facts and the ability to apply this biological knowledge to new and varied situations.
Sports and Exercise as an Experimental Science:
Students gain a fuller understanding of sport and health science phenomena by first hand experience. In the laboratory and in the field they also develop a critical approach, which can be used very effectively elsewhere and later in life.
All students must carry out a range of practical activities. These include a Group 4 project, research assignments, data interpretation exercises and an extended individual investigation.
