Lectio Divina is a practice of sacred reading with scripture. The beginning of this practice is attributed to many places in our Christian history, from the early desert fathers and mothers to the 6th century monastic traditions and on specific biblical text. It is a way to read scripture less for information or historical context and more as a way to meet the aliveness of God as the Word speaks to us today through our own engagement and intuition. I have heard this practice called Breaking Open the Word which feels fresh and descriptive. This practice allows us a new read of the Bible, opening each word and phrase while listening for what God has to say to us about our life today. Lectio is an intimate time of quiet and prayerful conversation as we receive God's word for us.
To support you on this journey, this page serves you in your dedicated month of exploring and learning the art of Lectio Divina.
