Our year is divided into three trimesters. We will explore core science ideas and apply what we learn through hands-on activities as well as engineering and design projects, as outlined by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
How We Measure Learning
We will use letter grades to track student progress on assignments, projects, and assessments. The goal is always to grow and learn together! The grades correspond to the following percentages:
A (100-90%) = Excellent: The student shows a full and deep understanding of the science concepts.
B (89-80%) = Good: The student shows a solid understanding of the science concepts.
C (79-70%) = Satisfactory: The student shows a basic understanding of the science concepts but may need some more practice.
D (69-60%) = Needs Improvement: The student is still beginning to learn the science concepts and needs more support.
F (59% and below) = Not Passing
Classroom Policies
Late Work: My goal is to teach responsibility while also being flexible. Students will have a two-week grace period after an assignment's due date to turn it in for full credit. After two weeks have passed, the assignment can still be submitted but will receive a 20% deduction in score. Please feel free to communicate with me if there are special circumstances.
Absences: If a student is absent, please check our Google Classroom for missed work, and/or ask a classmate or Ms. Kridle or Mr. Dubon upon return. We are here to help you get caught up!
Materials for every science class:
A dedicated Science Journal
A Science Folder to keep papers organized
Your fully charged iPad
A pen or pencil
Textbook: Our class will use the CK12 Flexbook, which is available online. We will access it in class using our iPads.
