We are continuing to celebrate Read Across America Month, by incorporating DEAR ("Drop Everything And Read") time throughout the month of March. Students are expected to have a personal book with them at all times during March, so they can be ready to "drop everything and read" when their teacher decides to implement DEAR time.
Students returned from NorthBay and from what I hear, they had an amazing time! I can't wait to hear the details in the week ahead.
Our next novel is Hidden Figures, an exciting non-fiction book about the African American women who contributed to the success of NASA and didn't receive any credit until recent years. My plan is to read that and then one more book before the end of the year.
We will continue working on Unit 10 in our vocabulary workbook, and will have that assessment this Friday, March 20th.
Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to read some information about what you need to do to have your 6th grader ready for 7th grade next year.
After completing our novel, students had a fun time making a Jeopardy game to review for the assessment. They are a competitive group, so it was definitely a high energy game! I continue to be impressed by the hard work and dedication this group of students has, and am excited to begin our next book with them this week!
We will be reading the well-written, exciting novel that never fails to capture the interest of students, Refugee. I would encourage you to ask your student about the book and have them share with you the stories of the 3 main characters in the novel.
We are currently working on Unit 10 in our vocabulary workbook, and will have that assessment this Friday, March 20th.
Eighth Grade:
Our next novel, Touching Spirit Bear, is an exciting one that has real life applications dealing with forgiveness, anger, and redemption, just to name a few. The students are sure to love this one and I am looking forward to finishing out our year on a positive note!
As students are understandably getting excited about the end of the year and moving on to high school, any reminders from home to keep working and doing their best would be greatly appreciated.
We will continue working on Unit 10 in our vocabulary workbook, and will take that assessment this Friday, March 20th.
Looking ahead...

At the start of the second trimester, all middle school teachers implemented a standardized late work policy designed to promote responsibility and time management skills that are essential for academic success.
Students who fail to submit homework or practice assignments will receive a zero with no opportunity for makeup credit. This policy encourages consistent daily engagement with course material.
Late submissions will be accepted within one calendar week of the original due date for a maximum of 50% credit. Students receive an "Unprepared for Class" slip documenting the final submission deadline. Work submitted after this date will receive a grade of zero. Students must notify teachers via email when submitting late work—Google Classroom messages do not fulfill this requirement.
Missed quizzes and tests due to absence must be completed upon return or within one week for extended absences. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule makeup assessments.
