Welcome to second grade! This is an exciting year for students as they begin to apply and develop the skills learned in first grade. Our STEM program allows students to solve problems, learn through investigation and develop critical thinking skills while integrating science, technology, engineering and math principles.
Our literacy program teaches reading strategies that improves comprehension, accuracy, fluency and vocabulary. We will continue our phonic work to improve reading, spelling and word recognition; skills helpful as students begin to develop written expression.
Students will also continue to build on their mathematical skills and apply mathematical thinking to problem solve. These academic concepts; as well as those in Social Studies, will be integrated into our STEM program. Many of our STEM and Science Lab projects will have students working with partners or in small groups. Social skills learned while working with others will be reinforced as we continue learning about God and the values of our Catholic Faith.
Parent/teacher communication is the key to success in the classroom. You will be kept informed about general classroom happenings through our class newsletter and class emails. Of course, you may contact me at any time with concerns or questions via a note, email or school phone message.
Together we can help your child succeed and have a wonderful second grade experience!
