Acting and Advanced Acting 2021-2022

Acting Class Overview

Welcome to the wonderful world of theatre! Acting class will cover such topics as the history of theatre and its importance, theatre basics, acting basics, monologue performance, scene work, beginning characterization and analysis, accent work and improvisation as well as other areas of the theatre. Memorization and class performance are required for this class.

Advanced Acting Class Overview

Advanced acting will dive farther into the basics of acting class and dig deeper into analysis, characterization, accents, auditioning and the job of theatre, directing and play production start to finish. There is an out of school component to this class as well, as the 2nd term will be spent putting together a student directed/produced/acted one act production. Production dates will be announced before the end of 1st term. Memorization and class performance are required for this class. Acting class must be taken before advanced acting.

Grading Policy

Most of the work for class will be done in the form of projects. Active participation is required and will often serve as a grade. Active participation can look like (but is not limited to):analysis of shows and characters, basic show facts, rehearsals of material, participation in discussions, warm-ups or games. Performances or completed projects will be worth more points and therefore bigger pieces of final grades.

90-100%=A 80-89%=B 70-79%=C 60-69=D Below 59.5%=F

*Students who fall below 70% will have guardians contacted and more than likely receive EAS time.

Homework

Homework will not be regularly assigned. If class time is utilized well, all work should be able to be completed then. However, there may be times when memorization, research, analysis and such will have to be taken home to be completed. If there is a class-wide homework assignment, it will appear in Google Classroom along with its due dates. Late work will be accepted at a 50% deduction, with a "0" being given after 1 week past due date.

  4. Keep EVERYTHING school appropriate.

  5. Have fun!

Classroom Procedures

  1. Please be in your seat and ready to go when the bell rings.

  2. Try to go to the bathroom between classes. Class/rehearsal time is very important and needs to be treated as such.

  3. Much of our work will be done individually or in small groups. You will be expected to remain on task AT ALL TIMES.

  4. Be open minded. This class is unlike any other and our games/assignments/work is too. There will be no complaining about scripts/games/etc.

  5. The Black Box will be picked up before you leave each day. All props, furniture, costumes, etc will be put back as they were before anyone is allowed to leave, even if the bell has rung.

About me

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Ziegler and this is my second year teaching theatre at Stillwater High School. However, theatre has been a huge part of my life since the age of 5. I have been involved in more than 100 productions over the course of my life, in every capacity, from backstage to onstage to directing. I have a B.A. in Theatre and Secondary Education from Sterling College in Sterling Kansas and spent 6 years teaching in Kansas before taking some time to be a momma. Some of my favorite roles include "Mrs. Lovett" in Sweeney Todd, "Varya" in The Cherry Orchard and "Annie Oakley" in Annie Get Your Gun.

I have lived in Stillwater for about 7 years with my husband, our 3 kiddos (The Ziglets) and our German Shorthair Pointer Franklin. I love all things theatre, vintage bargain hunting, baking and hanging out with my family!
