Stillwater Middle School Orchestra

Greetings and welcome students, parents, guardians, and community members to the 2019-2020 school year.

My name is Angela Ruiz, and I am the new middle school orchestra teacher this year. I'm going to share a little about myself. I started orchestra in the 5th grade in my hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma. I spent many years working with my teachers who co-taught and inspired me, Donna Brox and Susan Diekman in class and in their private studios which combine for a Suzuki class over the weekends. I received my Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master Degree in Music Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I am going into my 6th year of teaching. I taught for one year in Crowder, Oklahoma and four years in Enid, Oklahoma.

This is an exciting year as many good things are happening in Stillwater. As you all know the middle school is still under construction, but the orchestra room, the two sectional rooms and the choir room are finished and ready for students. If you notice on your schedule that the room you are scheduled to go to is in a different room from the orchestra room it is due to the fact that the band room isn't quite finished yet. The shuffling is to accommodate the largest class sizes in the largest spaces available. The music community is strong across all disciplines in Stillwater, and it is amazing and humbling to be a part of it. I know we will all support each other through this process and continue to support each other as a music community in the future once everything is finished. All we ask is patience and flexibility until all of the rooms in the fine arts wing are finished.

While you are here on our new middle school orchestra website, please feel free to look through the links and various pages to familiarize yourself with the set up of the web page as many things from important documents, dates, and lesson material will be posted here.

Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to teach your students this year.
