Welcome to 2G: Mr. Grothaus

Welcome to our class web page! I am excited to be a 2nd grade teacher at St. Gabriel and I’m glad to be a part of this faith-filled school and community! This is my fifth year at St. Gabriel.

I grew up in the St. Louis County area (Ballwin) and I attended Catholic schools in the area. For K-8th grade I went to St. Joseph’s Manchester. During high school I attended DeSmet Jesuit High. DeSmet’s motto is “Men For Others” and this motto and the terrific teachers really made me want to serve and give back to my community.

This is my 18th year in teaching. I have taught in the public school system, however, I felt a calling to teach in a Catholic school and am thrilled I have gotten that opportunity at St. Gabriel.

I began my teaching career as a Title 1 Reading teacher. I am also trained in Reading Recovery to help struggling readers. My certification is in Elementary 1-6. I am also certified in Language Arts 5-9th grades. I have spent the majority of my educational career teaching 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades.

I received my educational degrees from Truman State University (undergraduate), Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Masters) and Webster University (teaching certification).
