Tikanga - When presenting your mihi, never stand with your back to anyone, if you were in a circle and sitting on a seat you would actually stand behind the seat.
An appropriate response after a mihi is to say Kia ora
What do I need to do?
Step 1: Make a copy of the following pepeha template.
Step 2: Once you have writen your mihi/pepeha, check in with a kaiako before recording.
Step 3: Record yourself saying your mihi /pepeha, use mote or screencastify.
Step 4: Choose from one of the three create tasks to complete.

waka - canoe
rāua - 2 people
rātou - 3+ people
tōku - belonging to me
ōku - belonging to me (more than one)
matua - father
whaea - mother
tipuna - ancestor
A mihi/Pepeha can be used by anyone in a number of situations, both formal and informal. At a hui, before addressing the room; at kura (school); when meeting new people... anytime you want to say who you are and where you come from. Being able to introduce yourself in te reo Māori is a helpful tool that we can all use in our everyday lives.

Practice saying your Mihi/pepeha to others and remember to think about the Māori alphabet and the sounds of the letters.
