What is ROOST?

ROOST (Real-Time Optical Open Spot Tracking) is an innovative solution designed to alleviate the frustration and inefficiency of parking on the Stevens Institute of Technology campus. Utilizing Hikvision cameras integrated with YOLOv5, ROOST provides real-time parking availability data through a mobile application, enhancing the campus commuting experience. The application, available on both iOS and Android, ensures easy access for students, faculty, and staff. Finding a parking spot on campus is a persistent issue, leading to unnecessary stress, wasted time, and congestion. ROOST eliminates the guesswork by providing users with live parking availability updates, reducing the time spent circling for a spot and enhancing overall campus mobility.  

To ensure privacy protection, ROOST incorporates OpenCV-based redaction, which automatically blurs personally identifiable information captured by the cameras. This feature ensures compliance with data privacy regulations while maintaining a seamless user experience.  ROOST is a game-changing innovation in parking management, offering a cost-effective, scalable, and privacy-conscious solution for universities and institutions.
