Saturna Island

Photography

Gulf Islands, British Columbia, Canada

Note: Over the years the focus of my website has shifted more towards climbing trip reports, so I stopped actively updating my photography section around 2015 or so. But, there are still several great photos here, so enjoy!

In 2002, my parents bought a 1-acre piece of property on Saturna Island, one of the more remote islands of the Gulf Island chain near Vancouver Island, British Columbia. (Currently we are building a house—designed as a class project for an architecture class I took as an elective in university—where my parents plan to live once they retire.) Saturna Island is a photographer's paradise: mountains right on the ocean’s edge, magnificent sunsets, orca pods swimming by right off the sandstone shelf, delicate flowers, almost 200 different bird species (see my bird photography page for photos of several Saturna birds), the beautiful National Park at East Point, and so much more. Below is a sampling of my photos from Saturna.
