Welcome to the big school! First grade is a time of transition.
Our first-grade learners are getting used to the expectations that come along with being a “Big Kid at the Big School." In religion class, we learn prayers, bible stories, and the sacraments through art, music, and a variety of experiences. We are a part of the weekly mass which helps us to live like Jesus. Our main goal for your child is to teach them to read.
First grade at St. Elizabeth provides a curriculum for young learners with a solid educational foundation through carefully planned instructional goals and learning objectives. We believe strongly that essential learning skills, cooperative social behavior, and good study habits are the foundation for an excellent education. Our teachers concentrate not only on what children learn but on how they learn. We emphasize the active learning process. In this process, we encourage cooperative learning, which includes problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Through our use of the Savvas MyView Reading Series, guided reading and leveled readers, each learner’s individual needs are met. This helps everyone become the most successful reader they can be. Social Studies and Science are taught through hands-on learning and field trip experiences. Our math program helps us understate the processes of math not just memorize facts. Through technology, games, using manipulatives, and their workbooks, we are engaged in our learning. Through writer’s workshop learners not only process the mechanics of writing but are able to explore different genres of writing using mentor authors.
Technology use with Chromebooks and the Interactive board is woven naturally in all subjects helping us create learners who are self-assured, confident, and ready for the world! This love for learning is what makes first grade the best!
St. Elizabeth offers all a lively and loving community with endless possibilities.
