24-Month STEM OPT Extension Application Instructions

Once you have determine your eligibility for STEM OPT, you will need to provide your completed Form I-983 to iss@stedwards.edu and request your STEM OPT recommendation I-20 from ISS before submitting your application to USCIS. Remember you must apply for your STEM OPT Extension within the final 90 days of your post-completion OPT period. You cannot apply for STEM OPT after your current post-completion OPT period expires.

You have the option to apply for STEM OPT with USCIS online or by mail. However you must first request your STEM OPT recommendation I-20 from ISS.

USCIS will accept premium processing requests for I-765 applications with an additional filing fee.

You will receive your USCIS receipt number once your application is submitted. You can track the status of your application at https://www.uscis.gov. Remember to provide ISS with a copy of your USCIS receipt notice, approval notice, and STEM EAD when received. 

Option 2: Steps to Apply for STEM OPT Extension By Mail

If filing a paper petition, assemble your documents in this order. For online filing, see uscis.gov/i-765.
