Session Description:
This session will introduce the Male Initiative for Leadership and Education (MILE) Program. MILE, a student support program, provides inclusive academic support, mentoring, and community engagement opportunities to male students at STCC, focusing on increasing enrollment, retention, and completion rates of Black and Latino males. During this Presentation, Faculty and Staff will be presented with the program's Vision, Mission, and Goals, how success is measured for MILE Scholars, strategies the program employs, its staffing model, and Student Programming. The Presentation will also leave time to engage in Q&A with the campus community.
Presenter:
Miguel Maria, Director of MILE, has earned his bachelor's degree with a dual major in Economics and Political Science and a Master's in Public Administration, concentrating in Public Management from Westfield State University. He is currently ABD in his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership (Ed. D.) at the University of Hartford. His research focus is on millennial administrators in Higher Education. Miguel is so passionate about student support programs because he is a product of student support programs. As the Director of MILE, he works one-on-one with underrepresented male students to assist them in the college completion process. He promotes student success by providing mentoring, academic support, and community engagement opportunities for MILE Scholars.
